Alameda Point is home to a very important breeding site for a colony of endangered California least terns. Rick Lewis reports back from an excursion to the site with photos of the "small, resilient, and entertaining birds" and their camouflaged chicks.

At #lakechabot, part of the #ebrpd (East Bay Regional Park district) in SF-Bay area.
I don't know if the turtles were always at this area, or only after 3 month of heavy rain. I finally remembered to take my digital camera with a 10x zoom and snap some pictures.
This lovely man-made lake is on the edge of #castrovalley and #sanleandro and worth a visit. Free street parking can be a pain during busy times.

Last night along the shoreline was so beautiful. Itβs amazing how this newer segment of the SF Bay Trail immediately became a fixture in my day-to-day activities. Itβs close & quick to access, a nice smooth walking path, and beautiful 180-degree bay views. Exercise + nature + relaxation. Perfect for when I donβt have a lot of time β like most days after work. (I say 180 degrees, because the other side is a major horse racetrack)

Hereβs a lousy video of one of the eagles being harassed by a raven (or crow?). Arrowhead Marsh, MLK Regional Shoreline, Oakland, CA. #EBRPD
Decided to pop out for a short walk & to add another park to my list of 2022 East Bay Regional Park District visits. Picked a loop that took me into both Garin Regional Park & Dry Creek Pioneer Regional Park, bumping my tally to 39.
Turned out to be such a delight! Gorgeous rolling green east bay hills, full stream after recent rains, and trails lined with bays & oaks.

My challenge to see how many East Bay Regional Park District lands I had time to visit in 2022 is mostly at an end: 37 parks and 5+ regional trails. Not bad. Got me out into parks not on my usual rotation. The district is such a treasure! An amazing assortment of #PublicLands for recreation of all types in a variety of landscapes. π
Someone suggested I do some superlatives, and I might over the next two weeks. But not the usual ones π What are your favorites?

In a botanic preserve, you take pictures of the lush & beautiful vegetation, right? π

Still trying to get to a few additional East Bay Regional Parks (#EBRPD) before end of year. Visited Lake Chabot Regional Park. I think this is # 36 for 2022. The reservoir was built 147 years ago. Today it serves as a backup water supply for EBMUD.

Still on my quest to see how many #EBRPD parks I can visit this year. The latest was Las Trampas Wilderness Regional Preserve in Danville, California (I think this was #34?). Another one I donβt visit often. Nice mix of ridge and stream valley trail options. Some beautiful views, lots of lizards, & perfect weather. (EBRPD = East Bay Regional Park District)
