There has been so much rain recently, causing the border to be damp and soggy, that the seeds left in situ in the echinacea seedheads that I left out for the birds, are germinating. You can bet if I'd gathered the seeds and tried to get them to germinate, nothing would have happened!

#echinacea_purpurea preparing the seeds for storage.

I bought #coneflower seeds two years ago. The first generation blossomed for the first time this summer. I put some of the spent flowers aside to keep the seeds.
I killed this years batch of seedlings... (all of them, except Tomatoes, Chili and squash...)
But next year I will have a lot of Echinacea seeds to plant. They will bloom first in 2023 and will be ready to harvest roots in 2024.
I'm looking forward to make #tincture.

#echinacea_purpurea #purpur_sonnenhut - eine wunderschöne Pflanze. Sie wird von vielen bestäuben besucht. Als Raupenfutterpflanze ist sie in Mitteleuropa wenig interessant, dafür ist sie eine wertvolle Heilpflanze.

Aus Samen gezogen blüht sie bei mir erst ab dem zweiten Jahr. Dieses und letztes Jahr habe ich welche angesät. Jetzt kann ich Samen gewinnen um nächstes Jahr mehr zu säen.

Und wenn sie gut angewachsen sind, kann ich Tinktur daraus machen.
