@phf My argument was not that people shouldn't have to come here specifically to be part of the community. It was that I have seen many people actively reject people who try to come here, or bitch about people who want to come here. That kind of #GateKeeping is, in fact, exclusionary, encourages #EchoChambers, and goes against the core things that drew me to Mastodon in the first place. And here I thought the #TwitterMigration was more of a failure because both sites have become trashy #Political shot throwing #EchoChambers with mostly the most ignorant people speaking the loudest and spreading #stupidity.

#Reddit, the only thing it had going for it was #networkeffect. I used it because that is what everyone uses. I don't like the voting concept, seemed to harbor #echochambers and drown out dissenting views. every thread always devolves into Rick and morty quotes, its not that great of a system at producing fruitful discourse. Interesting stuff can rise to the top by with simple metrics like # of comments. I turned off vote counts using a third party app, which will no longer be possible.

I'd rather choose a #based instance maintained by people who care [i.e. @stux] instead, and for those that want total control, #SelfHosting & #ManagedHosting is still an option.

@RollingStone the #ChristianNationalist #echochambers (like #foxnews and #youtube ) obviously stoke the fear that leads their lemmings to become violent, but how do you make them accountable? What law would make sense to punish the #media for bringing us to this point?

@TransitBiker once the fear of other races, ethnicities, cultures, immigrants, and alternative sexual preferences has been drilled into them by their #ChristianNationalist #echochambers then they do not have the right to force their resulting hatred onto other parents and their children.

If they want to repeat the success of #Wahabi #madrassa ‘s and radicalize their children in their own schools, then we can’t stop that.

We need to seriously think about how to manage a world where everyone can get into instant contact with any other human being. We are not made for such large groups and hale bearly learned to deal with more than a couple hundred personal connections, now imagine a couple million.
