Yesterday we were at a symposium in Potsdam, hosted by Film University Babelsberg and Climate Media Factory, Dr. Frank Hezel and Tobias Gralke invited. We already know Tobias, he moderated several panels at our Climate Cultures festivals "Planet Writes Back!" in November 2021

and "gegen!blicke!" in August 2022,

but we came across the symposium in Potsdam through one person who gave a talk there, Eleni-Ira Panourgia. Eleni-Ira asked CCnetwork berlin if we wanted to do something together in the direction of climate and sound, of course we would like to and so we met for the first time by the way in Potsdam.
The photo of Eleni-Ira with her text in the background can already tell you in which field she moves. Eleni-Ira sees her work at the moment more in the context of art. She takes sounds from nature and transforms them through digital interventions. In this way, one can possibly imagine how the recorded landscape or biotope might sound in ten years. Acoustic transpositions into the future, who can do something with that? Ecosoundscape composers and new music for sure, and we as festival organizers at the intersection of climate, crisis and culture already a bit.
A few years ago we produced a radio feature about the ecoacoustician and musician Bernie Krause. We were very intrigued by him and his credo: "I am a listener now." Tragically, his estate in Sonoma, California burned down shortly after our visit. There is more on Ecosoundscape and Climate Change here if you are interested:

The symposium was very interesting. Day 2 today we can't join because of a meeting with a publishing man who wants to organize a publication on our Berlin approach to Climate Cultures. We are exploring and see what could happen. So the need is there. The publishing house is one of the most important scientific publishers and has just recently published the wonderful handbook Political Ecology.
In Potsdam, we felt once again how the interfaces of science, culture and media are just beginning to form and generate fruitful approaches that are perceived with much interest. One word by Ilan Chabay may stand for many, he said, collaborations of science and art are above all there to provoke questions. That sounds good, we also see it that way, in matters of Climate Cultures we still prefer many right questions than the many wrong answers we currently hear on the topic of climate.
