Is there some word for doing inferences with data you know are a sum of multiple values (e.g. just seeing row/column sums of a table, ...)? One example I have is "deconvolution" in bioinformatics, but I'd like to see more. I'd expect this would be a common problem in econometrics or similar, but I struggle to find relevant papers... Any ideas?

listening to the book by Kate Raworth that's been on my list for so long. In the intro, she identifies four economic spheres, the *home*, the *market*, the *commons*, and the *state*. I think these are too concrete. Math requires the greatest abstraction possible. I have identified three paradigms that could be modeled as complementary currencies. The first is what we've got in : ① scarcity-based, incl fiat, cryptocurrency, & rare fungibles like gold.

I have been pondering these two charts, and I'm still astounded by the difference. These are both Measures of after-tax income, both means, but i don't think the OECD (top) one is PPP (adjusted for local prices). Other than that, I don't see where the difference could come from.

I still miss Twitter for & type stuff so dip in & there’s a good debate about - lamenting our lack of it - started by a good blogpost by Sam Bowman (generally of a thoughtful free markets disposition):

But David Henig (here @DavidHenig) makes an excellent point**:

either you think 50% of young adults are failures in a fair system or that the system is the failure

Only 28% of  (ages 27-42) & (ages 18-26) answered “not at all” when asked if they still relied on their parents for financial support, according to a recent study from credit agency Experian. And more than half said they were “somewhat or very” dependent on money from their families

"Even if China wanted to foster more consumption-led growth, it would not easily be able to do so. Many of the government’s economic policies are still designed to promote exports and investment, and to suppress consumption. Sustainably boosting households’ spending, such as by building up sturdier safety-nets, would take years to accomplish. The property-driven gloom could hover over the economy not just for the rest of the year, but far into the future"

Even in the 21st century, an economic policy of protectionism and capital controls can work - as accidentally proven by the trade sanctions on Russia, says JK Galbraith Jr

ineteconomics.org/research/res

"effective sanctions ... are similar to a policy of
trade protection, combined with a robust industrial policy, under favorable market conditions. At the same time, sanctions on individuals .. encourage wealthy Russians in Russia to invest at home."
