(This mostly a RT from Nicholas Mulder)
Excellent on Istvan Hont and his importance in the history of economic thought: "The driving claim of Hont’s work is that “the economic determination of politics,” in either its Marxist or pro-market varieties, has never really come to pass. Just as often, he observed, it is politics that determines economic policy."

Weird trade-geography question for my #histodons (do I know any #econodons on here?):
One of Cuba’s midcentury exports was SITC4 code “tobacco refuse.” What exactly is that as an export? Like I get the definition (waste tobacco from cigar etc. production), but what’s it being used for as an export product?
It represented more than a quarter of tobacco exports in 1962, and was worth more than actual cigars.
Hello fellow #econodons - if you are interested in the #econjobmarket, you can search for the #econjobmarket tag and click the follow icon. It will now show all posts using the tag in your Home feed.
@ethan It already has happened. The first group I ran across was #econodons, and there are plenty of others.
@pkrugman Welcome! Search the hashtag #econodons for more economists and users with an interest in the subject. (The search bar is right above where you post -- a lot of people don't see it at first.)
If #histodons is a hashtag, does that make econtwitter a bunch of #econodons?
