The fact that lots of #Canadian - and #international - news organizations have gone under in the modern age of the #internet is not news. It's unfortunate. Some news orgs have figured out how to #survive #economically in the age of the internet. Some have not.

More than one serious #analyst has come to the #conclusion that our news orgs are going out of business because they are, frankly, producing #terrible #content that no one wants to #pay for.

@unchartedworlds @MrPDaniel We truly have become homo economicus. If there isn’t an economic model for something, people start to question it’s existence.

This is in many ways sad, but as we become more and more dependent on computing it is also likely unavoidable.

We need therefore to put much more effort in #economically #modelling what the #humanities have discovered.

Don’t fear the economist, don’t judge those that balance sheets. Make it about wellbeing and planetary health!

Two species of introduced #wasps are natural enemies (good!) of the #economically damaging, also introduced spotted wing #drosophila which attacks small fruits (#agricultural and #wild).

The wasps' ability to lay eggs on #fly maggots depends on the ovipositor dimensions. New research (Earley et al. 2023) shows the two species egg-laying organ length and/or stoutness varies by species and where they live.

I now sincerely warn that people should be cautious against #China state (!= #Chinese ethnicity). They are now #economically powerful and influential.

They make beautiful infrastructure and commodities, and try to let you give up your #freedom and #rights as you can/already own these beautiful things.

They think most of the people will do because everyone enjoy nice-looking things.
