Damn, it took me less than five hours to go from zero to a fully usable :nixos: #NixOS 💪:

- getting #GnuPG working
- homedir encryption with #eCryptfs
- all software I need
- even managed to package 3 custom things not in nixpkgs (passrofi, my #OpenTimeStamps client fork, bemoji)

Currently installing :nixos: #NixOS on my work PC (tired of constant little :manjaro: #Manjaro breakages, I need a stable system with option for latest packages). It's *really* cool to change your OS via a configuration file!

In the process I updated the wiki page for encrypting your home directory with #eCryptfs. This involves imperative steps, but I guess this can't be automated, really (except in the installer maybe...).

Currently the only solution I can think of is installing normally, creating a home partition, then encrypting the home folder using #ecryptfs, but surely there's a better method than that, right?

Well...
#keybase is now aquared by #zoom and, probably, we should not use it. How ever, it is still better than #google and the others (unless you pay for #nextcloud hosted somewhere).

But...
We have lots of cryptotools like #ecryptfs and #encfs. Moreover, we have #cryfs, which hides all the metadata. Maybe it is still ok to use kbfs secured by additional cryptographic layer?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Any recommendations for an encrypted filesystem on a network mount?

- #ecryptfs is not recommended on network mounts
- #encfs has security issues
- #cryfs looks promising, but latency of the base fs gets multiplied by orders of magnitude, which makes it unusable :(

No #ecryptfs in #Debian Buster. Also trouble an #Arch and #Artix with newer kernels.

Therefore I migrated to #gocryptfs. Works good so far.
