I have an answer: nope, not all the women are wearing pink, it just happened to be the ones in the first two heats. I've seen men (including Kelly Slater) in pink, and women in other colors.

Does anyone know if the women competing in the Eddie today CHOSE to all wear pink rash guards, or if the organizers decided to put all the women in pink because casual ingrained sexism? (Of the mostly harmless type, but still.) Like if they wanted/needed to make the women easily identifiable, they could have chosen ANY bright color. Why hot pink, huh?

In 2016 when it went, I planned to go, but my boss told me I couldn't have the day off. I went in, crestfallen, and 3/4 of the office was out watching the competition. We put it up on the SOC big pew-pew screen, and watched. I'm pretty sure that was my one shot to see the Eddie in person. It was - by far - one of the least productive and nothing burger days at work, and I still feel like I missed out.

#EddieAikau is on for Wednesday. This means one of the premiere big wave surfing competitions will be held, at #WaimeaBay on the #northshore of #Oahu for the first time since 2016. Annually, storm swells reach #Hawaii in the middle of winter, bringing waves over 35' high.
