The 2023 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational ("The Eddie") was epic. Held for the first time in 7 years and only 10th time since its creation in 1984 – it runs only when there are consistent 20+" waves at Waimea Bay. Won this year by on duty lifeguard Luke Shephardson who competed in his heats during sanctioned breaks in his shift. Wave faces looked to be as much as 40-50"
