Logged into the #ubiquity #edgerouter for the first time in ages, and its limping along (forwarding is fine) - so so slow. Guess 7 months of uptime will get it to that point, though nothing in the stats looks out of whack...

Zweiter #EdgeRouter ERLite-3 nach wiederum sieben Jahren sang- und klanglos abgeraucht :( Das ist mir für eine Routerhardware auch für den privaten Einsatz doch eher ein bisschen kurz. Wird wohl kein neuer mehr hinkommen. Seine Dienste hat er, dank Linux, immer hervorragend und absolut "lautlos" erbracht. R.I.P.

Attempting to configure an #Ubiquiti #edgerouter x to replace my old router. Lets see how this goes.

Pull the WAN cable and plug it back in? Problem stops for a bit. Tech came back out, put in ANOTHER modem (#Hitron EN2251). Stays around this time. Problem starts within minutes. We have LTE backup. Pull WAN cord and flip to WAN2 - problem stops. Flip back to WAN1, works fine for a bit. Spent DAYS on this. Flipped WAN2 port to primary. Installed Copper GBIC in fiber port as WAN primary. Still happens. Wasn't hardware. Put an #Edgerouter inbetween our router and cable modem. Still happens.

Ehkä huomenna vielä laitteen resetointi ja uudestaan sama kertauksena. Sitten jalkauttaa se tuonne telekaappiin 🫠

Ostin pari vuotta sitten uuteen taloon muuttaessa #ubiquiti #edgerouter'in ja tarkotus oli segmentoida talon verkko kunnolla. Aikani taistelin ja jouduin toteamaan, että en osaa tarpeeksi hyvin. Ja sen netinkin täytyisi talossa toimia samaan aikaan.
Vuosi sitten kävin AMK:n #tietoverkot-kurssin, missä asiat tuli paljon paremmin selkeäksi.
Nyt vuosi myöhemmin ostin toisen saman reitittimen, jolla voin demota konffausta häiritsemättä muuta kotiverkkoa.
Saa nähdä muistanko enää mitään kurssista...

BGP configuration between my #Ubiquiti #EdgeRouter and a #NSX T0 Router in Active-Active config with Statefull services.

The two router thing is sort of working out in the #homelab.. BGP on the #edgerouter for internal cluster and the #VyOS and #OPNsense for north south bound traffic... Why you ask? Stop asking questions this is #homelab and we do shit to do shit !!😆 .

@mhamzahkhan I'm also using #opnsense as my firewall right now. I have it in transparent mode just firewalling at my edge.. reminds me I need to find a good solution for east west traffic.. anyways.. I'm trying to swtich over to #vyos and #opnsense from #edgerouter to have more visibility.. This trip has made me hate #networking more than ever :)

Day 3 of switching from a #ubiquiti #EdgeRouter (ER-X) to a #pfSense box.

Found one annoying problem with the DHCPv4 leases page that I managed to fix (details in next post).

Otherwise, I am damn delighted with this. It is leaps and bounds better than the EdgeMax software.

Better monitoring and info, better configuration tools, better underlying OS install, automated config backups on every change, and more. Continuing to feel good. ✨

I'm back.. It was BGP.. some how I lost my peering session with my router.. I delete the BGP config re-initilized it on both #lxd cluster and #edgerouter4 and we are back! Everyone is adverting the correct routes.

The more I think about #selfhosting external services on my #homelab. I'm ganna need to rethink my router situation. This #EdgeRouter or router on the stick stuff is pretty rigid.

Was macht man Freitag abends, eine Stunde vorm Schlafen gehen?

Sich fragen, warum das #EdgeRouter Lite #OpenWRT image auf dem #Ubiquity Unifi Security Gateway (das hier herum liegt) nicht bootet, die sind eigentlich ident.

Also schnell OpenWRT master auschecken, um zu schauen, ob man das patchen kann.
Einem Kernel Patch, etwas devicetree-magic und Makefile Anpassungen und 1x Zähne putzen später bootet erfolgreich Kernel 5.15.35

Device support heute fertig gestellt, demnächst dann upstream.
