I had no idea that yucca flowers are edible! These grow all over the Shenandoah valley in Virginia. Local lore is that enslaved people used them to mark graves.

Today's #sourdough bread; with edible flowers inside, and a cocoa power rub I gave the dough before scoring.
It will be a couple of hours before I can cut it safely, so no idea how the crumb will be (or if those flowers have kept their vibrant colouring) but it smells divine.
Ingredients:
100gr (rye) starter
310gr water (but including a whole egg)
450gr strong white flour
10 gr salt
20 gr honey
a small handful of dried flower leaves
a dusting of cocoa powder

Yay. Edible dried flowers, to tart up bread dough.
I'd wanted these for a while but because I have to buy most things online, I make lists of the things I need & want, and only order this kind of stuff, when I can combine it with other orders.
I'd feel uncomfortable having a car drive from the Gods know where for just a few dried flowers - you know, in the midst of a climate crisis.
I'm happy I now have them though

It’s a beautiful daily routine tiptoeing down to the #pond to supplement the native frog #tadpoles’ diet in the early mornings.
Luckily, the everyday #harvest of fresh #greens for lunch includes their favorite (baby spinach). Many other greens are growing, but regular hand picking allows spells for regrowth, and we only plant what will actually grow in this environment. Some are volunteers. Today’s harvest in midsummer coastal #Australia includes:
Spinach, silver beet, kale, rocket, cress, sorrel, Asian greens, spring onion, basil, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, coriander, mint, nasturtium, leek, green beans, tomato, capsicum, baby eggplant, radish, edible flowers, together with a handful of wild greens grown mostly to attract beneficial insects with their flowers.
Orchard #Swallowtail caterpillars have appeared on the citrus, to increase the neighborhood butterfly population.
