At the same time, reporting issues upstream is the only way for the developers to notice these things (I highly doubt stuff like this can be seen in the telemetry, and also remember that I'm using VSCodium).

How do folks cope with this?

@rlmcelreath Cool! I hadn't heard of TeXshop yet. I'm an guy so I was hoping to drag you into some discussion of vi vs emacs, but alas. VScode seems to escape the wars by being more of a browser than a text editor ;-).

So, who wants vim? Last time I needed to use an editor it didn't need the kernel headers as a dependency. 🙄

@barocio I instead follow the Unix philosophy: for each purpose, one tool that does its job well.

@einonm vim is software that is quite complex and not written in a memory safe language, and not formally proven to be correct.

It has a history of vulnerabilities, like any similar software.

And this, my dear, is exactly why you should learn or (both released in 1976 and still going strong, no "sunset" bs anywhere) and never ever jump on the bandwagon of any -du-jour.

> No one wants to admit that an excellent programmer can do more in vi in an afternoon than a team of average programmers with all the groupware and IDEs in the world.

:D

There's actually a bit of "research" to support that from Triplebyte's blog: in 2017, they found that (on their coding quiz) users outperformed by 38% and users by 26%. triplebyte.com/blog/technical-

A replication in late 2018 put vim at 24% and Emacs at an amazing 54% triplebyte.com/blog/editor-rep

Wow, just from reading that screenshot, it seems like has *quite* the awful community.

Not to start any , but it's hard for me to imagine some of those issues being raised in the or communities
