When Edward VII was Prince of Wales and went up to Cambridge, his mother, Queen Victoria, rented lovely Madingley Hall, a 16th century manor, to be his “student housing”. If any of his fellow students ever dropped by for a glass of sherry, I’m sure they were struck by how *different* the prince’s lodgings were from their own small and spartan college rooms!
