Jacktone Odhiambo, a long-time friend and reported housemate of Edwin Chiloba, has denied murdering him. On 31 January it was announced that Odhiambo, aged 24, will be charged over the killing. He remains in custody.

“He "spread love wherever he went, was bold about his existence as a queer man and encouraged many others to do the same," Chris Makena, an activist and friend of Chiloba, told the BBC.
