@baba_lilith #EdYong was the best thing about The Atlantic for a long time, and frequently the only thing about it that didn't make me want to scream and throw things.

Fatigue Can Shatter a Person
Everyday tiredness is nothing like the depleting symptom that people with long COVID and ME/CFS experience.

I've been reading #EdYong's #audiobook of "An Immense World" and it is just so good. But I've been particularly enjoying the narrator/performer of the book. He does such a good job of capturing the feel of the book, and is so engaging without being inauthentic as so many audiobook readers are.
Well, it turns out it's Ed Yong himself. The man can do no wrong.
He has a Sagan-like ability to make the material real, but a full-bodied GenX/Millennial wryness. Delightful all around.
I love the #books of #edyong, so I was thrilled to hear @kimberlyadams and @kairyssdal interview him about #pandemicPreparedness #Covid and #LongCovid. 17 minutes. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/make-me-smart/id1181589165?i=1000614237766

I just read a chapter about how vision works in animals. It featured this little monster who seems like a real nasty piece of work. They also see SPIRAL POLATIZED LIGHT, which pretty much breaks my little brain.

[Nicolette Louissant] talked about how people who work on preparadness see tragedy coming well ahead of anyone else, so they’re already worried before it happens, then they rush to deal with it when it happens. When things calm down they can see the scars of the period of tragedy. They’re always looking at the worst-case scenarious straight in the face for a long period of time without respite.
