#GiveWell is a nonprofit within the #EffectiveAltuism movement that evaluates and recommends charities that save or improve lives the most per dollar. It focuses on cost-effectiveness and evidence of impact.
In 2020, GiveWell donors contributed over $240 million to its recommended charities. These donations will save over 150,000 lives.

In this thread I will explain in short how GiveWell translates a donated dollar amount into a number of saved lives.
I'd like to attempt a short explanation of the singular failing, the fundamental ethical and philosophical error at the heart of #EffectiveAltuism.
First, it's good to maximise the returns on your generosity. You *should* try to do as much good as you can. Obviously!
But how do we measure good? Herein lies the problem. And the fundamental flaw which allows people at the centre of this #cult to justify themselves being terrible.
