It's been fun figuring out what vegetable plants will and will not grow in various sized containers. Most die almost immediately or look so sickly that I feel terrible for them. Some thrive. And then there are the “bonsai vegetables”: plants that seem to be perfectly happy, but grow unusually small.
These nasu (Japanese eggplant) fall into that last category. The plants are about a third the size of normal, flowered and fruited way early, and the fruit are almost bite sized. Unfortunately the also don't taste very good, possibly because I'm misjudging when to pick them. But they are quite pretty.

@gardening #gardening I went out to see what was happening this morning, and I noticed that the #eggplant is finally warm enough to set fruit! I quit counting at a dozen - there are a lot of tiny eggplants coming my way. I think it’s “little fingers.”
The little Kazakh #melons are coming along nicely!
And I picked quite a few green beans, but I ate them as I went, so there’s no evidence. One day the vines will catch up to my appetite, but not yet.

I meditated in my #garden under the full moon & listened.
They had seven wishes for themselves & asked for me to fulfill them.
I’m already half way there with the soil enriched.
Below are the new volunteer #tomato plants that I transplanted, the new #blueberry shrub, the now loaded #eggplant & the main bed where I’ve seeded 2 kinds of #pumpkins, Giant California #zinnias & bequinho #peppers.

Staking zucchinis makes it much easier to spot SVB eggs and fight powdery mildew. And eggplants are growing up in mesh bags to protect them from the bitey bugs. Love harvesting eggplants in their pretty gift bags!

Just bought replacement seed to stagger and fill in the new spaces since the garlic is pulled and the chamomile dried and harvested: #beans, #eggplant, #peppers, #squash and #pumpkin for the warm season planting in the #garden here in #SanDiego.
I also got shade cloth to prevent burns to my #peppers and #tomatoes.
