Vatimgana supposedly refers to eggplant’s ability to help with stomach distress. It roughly translates to, “the plant that removes windy humour.”

There seems to be a second naming journey that lead to the Italian name Melanzane, which is quite interesting, and related to it being called "mad apple" or something similar.

I’ve found it very hard to grow #eggplants because it’s cold throughout the year where I live. Highs go over 65F only for a few days in the year and not during the typical eggplant growing season. But 2022 was an exception! #gardening #vegetables
