On a team of 4, 3 of us have #RTX 3090 video cards or better in our computers that we are using for #AI applications. One person has an M1 #mac I was going to suggest an #eGPU for her, but decided to test it first.

As it turns out, #Apple dropped support for eGPUs. It's a non-option. She'll have to experience AI training at a slower rate.

if you bought a #GPU a couple of years ago don't go see what it costs now. i was too curious to not try an RX 580 in a thunderbolt chassis from OWC as an #eGPU and it's great but i could buy that card for 20% of the price i paid now or probably get something that would really make a #hashcat meow!

@paul *nodds in.agreement* the fact that #Apple doesn't do #eGPU's on #ARM / #ARM64 is still pissing me off...

Not shure how far @AsahiLinux is in that regard, but I also think that's on their "nice to have eventually" #backlog with no ETA on when and how it's gonna be suppirted if at all..

I'm very much thinking of getting the the #framework #AMD 13.

i'm not sure if i should be waiting to shop for a #macStudio until the fall event or if a refurb M1 Pro (i'm not an Ultra demographic) is a steal right now.

i know i want at least 64GB of memory and 2TB internal flash.

@paul the lack of #eGPU drivers does not fill me with hope. Are they just not ready yet?

I have to say that I am liking the #Blackmagic #eGPU with Radeon RX580. I was able to connect it to my GalaxyBook2 Pro 360. Since it's a glorified docking station, I was able to connect a USB hub to a port so I can have a keyboard and mouse hooked up. I think I'll add an external #SoundBlaster that I have laying around and spare speakers for some better sound. I should have done this long ago.
