The train trip to Bremen gives me a good opportunity to digest (pun intended, sorry) the excellent keynote by @juttamata on why we eat what we eat #EHPS2023

Social aspects play a huge role, and we’ve only just begun to properly study real-life settings. There will be a large role to play for sensor-driven and AI-based approaches, such as the ones we are currently developing at OnePlanet Research Centre https://www.oneplanetresearch.nl/thema/preventive-health-nutrition-behaviour/

Time to brave the heat and take the train to Bremen for my in-person second half of #EHPS2023!

I planned to watch the keynote on train wifi, but that mythical creature is not around, so I am going to deplete my mobile data plan right until I reach the German border, where all mobile coverage ceases

(Like the famous joke goes: “Warum kann Spidermann nicht in Deutschland wohnen? - Kein Netz…”)

"Stressed is Desserts spelled backwards" is not the only thing I learned in a strong session on stress and snacking at #EHPS2023

Some key takes:
– Stress ⬆️ our intention-behaviour gap in snacking (rather than affecting snacking behaviour directly)
– Latent emotional eating is a thing
– Stress affects different food categories differently
– Interpersonal stress: snacking ⬆️
– Work-related stress: snacking ⬇️
– All measurements were self-report, which makes measuring outcomes difficult

Virtually traveling to lovely #Bremen for #EHPS2023 today – because of having a family, it is not always feasible for me to visit full-week conferences abroad.
