Anoushka Shankar in the Festival tonight, with a great band including Tom Farmer and the irrepressible Arun Ghosh.

It was a really enjoyable concert - the band got a real groove going! The understanding and interaction between the musicians was remarkable - and they really seemed into each others' solos!

A brilliant evening.

The bookshop I volunteer at played host to some musicians from the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, as part of the EIF outreach programme. It was rather special to hear a string quartet playing in the bookshop!

This week is, for me at least, LSO week at EIF.

Like this review (the only one I can find, apart from a paywalled Scotsman review), I thought their performance of Shostakovich's Symphony 11 was tremendous - very powerful music, and tremendous playing all round.

And the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto 2 left me unmoved - almost too familiar.

But the Shostakovich was remarkable!

okay, so i don't really mean identification here. i want some idea that means roughly "the nuisance functionals that make the estimand change when they get changed" because once you understand all the things that can twiddle your estimand that helps you grok the estimand itself

i.e. to characterize the ATE i only need to think about the propensity score and the conditional expectation of the outcome. is this general / is there some nice way to express it?
