Two months ago I was 46% through STEAMPUNK CLEOPATRA (Thaddeus Thomas, 2021). Today I'm at 54%. Clearly the book is not clicking with me. I fear I must invoke the #EightDeadlyWords of Dorothy Jones Heydt: "I don't care what happens to these people." While I can see how they got that way, neither main character is particularly likeable.
Also, while I was expecting a steampunk tale (look at the title), what I seem to have is a #SecretHistory, which means nothing is going to outwardly matter at the end. I think I'm just going to read a page or two at the start and end of each chapter, then read the last twenty pages or so, and be done with the book.
On the other hand, I #amReading TIN CAN AIRDALE by M.L. Maki (The Fighting Tomcats #7), an alt-hist novel where a US naval carrier group from 1990 ends up in 1941 and integrates itself into the war. Last night I was reading in the rocker, facing away from the room clock, and when I got up I noticed it was 04:00. (I'm retired: I slept past noon.)
The series is on #KindleUnlimited (a two-year subscription makes that only $6/mo). This is not a particularly well-written or -edited series (plenty of they're/their mix-ups, and so on), but it moves fast and I find it interesting.
