#Ethnography also suggests that in #rockart, the depictions are rarely meant literally.
In #San #art in #SouthAfrica, a picture of an #Eland may actually signify a raincloud, or a boy's initiation.
For #Palaeolithic art, proposals range widely, from animals to function as totems for #social groups, to #shamanism.
My bet is that very literal interpretations of Palaeolithic art are likely not the complete story.
