She accepts the information but doesn't have any personal knowledge of most facts of her life.
She saays:
I don't know what I think
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I'm going
I don't know where I've been

(Quick, hand me a guitar!)

There's no alarm or distress, just wonder at having no memory of the past or grip on the present.

Spent the weekend alternating between enjoying the accolades for the new magazine subscription page I created, and spending quality time with my elderly father who was visiting us at our new home.

Spending today finding long-term care facilities and trying to arrange medical power of attorney because my dad had a stroke not long after I dropped him off at home, and my sister is unable to care for him any longer.

I say my father's full name and she says, oh, I recognize that name. Matter of fact. I say, and you had three daughters, and she names us all without hesitating.
She asks if my father is still alive, and I say no, he died in 2010. End of questions on that topic.
In contrast, the last word my father uttered before/as he died was "wife." Though, to be fair, his wife was by his side at that moment.

Confirmed this morning that my mom doesn't remember my dad, or being married generally, it seems. I had an inkling b/c she never asks about him, whereas she sometimes asks if her mother or brother is still alive. Never her husband.
She asked whether she had always lived in this house and I said no, you lived in Atlanta until you got married., then you moved to Delaware. And she asks, and who did I marry? 1/2

For a month or so Mom hasn't volunteered info about visual hallucinations, or maybe they've not been clear to her, but today, she saw a bunch of words: Baldwin earlier; and now, while watching but not really seeing the baseball game on TV: singleton, swindleton (!), yellow, red, mangos (without an E, I asked), greens, pansies, and she still sees Baldwin.
We've been working on vision recently. Did we reconnect something?

Today Mom had her 6-mo reassessment for LTC. It's heartbreaking to witness so many unanswered questions -- what year is, what season, the name of this place we're in, how old are you... to see someone who used to do calculations in her head faster than my dad could punch numbers into his pocket calculator unable to count backwards by 3. Yet this "fail" is a win for her former self who made a bet w/the insurance co. Now she collects.

In Seattle it's less expensive for an elder to live in hedge fund private equity owned assisted living than hire in-home care.

Update: Later I showed her playing cards and she identified number and suit with minimal difficulty (not immediate, but within 5-10 seconds). And I showed her an ace, and she pointed out the As -- so those small letters she can see but not the fat 2" letters in marker. So I made a set of cards with the letter in the center, about three-quarters of an inch tall, with a sharpie. She could identify them! This is so curious. To be continued.
