So the idea was born and my colleague Rostislav Apraksin started a project to see if there is a link between the performance of the resulting PEDOT:PSS films and some property of the additives. Turned out, the Hofmeister series (which I had not heard of being used in electrochemical applications) could, to some extent, predict the properties of the films obtained. And this is what this new paper is about. doi.org/10.3390/polym15112468 (2/2)

I see @mjlacey has launched Inventory, which is a knowledge hub on a variety of topics, with particular focus on and the methods used to study them. For now, clicking through several links, it seems that content mostly matches that on his personal site (which helped me a lot, especially regarding !), but the vital distinction visible from the content roadmap is the intent for further growth with the help from outside contributors. lithiuminventory.com/

*Priors

*Subjective - what humans say.

*Objective - what humans do.

Fundamentally the objective is reality, but, Human consciousness is subjective. For example, a moon is a spherical object that mainly consists of rock. However, humans could subjectively perceive the moon as a circular disc that is made of cheese. A Planet's moon is an object, it has objective qualities - humans can be more or less informed (educated) about what that object is. The human mind can be more in touch or more out of touch with objective reality.

Believing that the moon is made of cheese, does not change anything in the universe. Believing, or not, that humans are degrading the ecology of the planet, does not change whether, or not, humans are the cause of, for example, a 6th mass extinction event (& anthropogenic )

Therefore, a method that aims to study the objective, such as science, is an approximation of objective reality (an increased probability of being correct). Human subjective experience has informed some humans that, fundamentally, consciousness is electrochemistry, therefore, also objective. However, in general, consciousness is an adaptation. A Human's ability to define what is or is not "real", is dependent on the quality of information. Belief is a hope of what is real, rather than an understanding of what is real.

A nurturing environment can inform or misinform humans. Some humans believe in a god, some don't - they can not be both correct perspectives. As each is a fundamental perspective. There either is, or there is not a god. Half a god? I have no idea what that means.

These two perspectives colloquially termed "faith or atheism" are very common delusions that, in general, humans are indoctrinated into from birth. The point is, both faith and atheism can be caused by a lack of understanding of objective reality. The difference is, what perceptions do inform understandings develop?

Everything is chemistry! And yet, some people don't think that way. Or rather, their electrochemical thoughts, don't believe in chemistry. Or rather, they evidently don't understand chemistry. This lack of knowledge, of chemistry, causes a "world" of worse social outcomes. For example, some adults buy "all-natural" products that, for example, consist of water (H2O), because the products are wrongly advertised as "chemical free".

Some may say that sounds like a "stupid" (ignorant) behavior (it is). But, ignorant adults tend to get offended when their ignorance is challenged (using facts). Calling them "stupid", isn't kind. But, when their stupid behaviors are causing harm, and when they're stubborn about their beliefs (that are causing harm), it's difficult to not react emotionally to their ignorant behaviors.

I understand as a psychologist, that calling ignorant adults "stupid", will be perceived as cruel, but, what if the ignorant adult's behaviors are causing implicit forms of cruelty? What if their psychology, or rather their level of education, is beyond reason? What if the adults have been indoctrinated into a belief system that defies reason? And that lack of reasoning is causing many bad social and ecological outcomes? Is "capitalism" objectively real or a subjective ideal? Are humans born to be venture capitalists? Or do they learn these ideas & associated behaviors?

Asking people, for example, "why are you doing that stupid thing?", if that action is based on ignorance, (if it is "stupid"), will compound the ignorant person's beliefs (see my "the backfire effect" post). Sometimes, we have to acknowledge that some people are beyond reason and focus on those that have not yet lost the ability to change (to adapt, to learn). Some people have not yet lost their curiosity. They are free to ask, even, difficult questions. For example, children that are being indoctrinated, so that they don't question the cultures or parent's "faith", can be helped to find reason, before it's too late. Of course, these social psychological outcomes are variances of a human population. Some people are more extreme in their beliefs, whilst others are more "on the fence" (e.g., don't really know what to believe).

Beyond belief is understanding. Understanding more means having more questions. However, understanding more about the "self" means having less self-doubt.

*Context - The dominant forms of politics & the average, common, or typical psychology of humans (in general).

First, in order to compare the typical human psychology that this post is referring to, a comparison needs to be made (the control group). A comparison is necessary (comparable psychology) because the fundamental problem of this population (the non-control group) is a deficit in knowledge about objective reality. This deficit has occurred because of a nurtured learning disability. From birth, some (young) humans have copied, are taught & are preached & indoctrinated to be as delusional as their peers (e.g., their dependents such as parents, teachers, etc). From the peer's perspective, this delusion is implicit. They believe, they perceive reality differently (in some ways) than the control group.

The control group would be what laypeople perceive as "scientists" (in general. Or rather the scientific knowledge that people understand more or less of). Laypeople, by definition, are, to some degree or another, scientifically illiterate (not aware of empirical knowledge), or their faith trumps the science they have experienced. Therefore, they tend to refer to science in the "third" person perspective - the context of "the scientist", rather than the scientific enterprise (e.g., the philosophy of science).

Essentially, the non-control group has varying levels of scientific illiteracy, which means, they are difficult to communicate within the context of scientific information. For example, in some cultures, it's very "awkward" to talk about air pollution with adults, because they are the problem. It's their lack of knowledge, for example, of chemistry & biology, that is the fundamental problem. They are only choosing to, for example, burn coal & wood in their homes because:

1. They have made and are making bad choices (harmful choices that they're not aware of)

2. They're in an 'energy trap', due to the culture's ignorant & corrupt sociopolitical & socioeconomic circumstances (e.g., politicians & the industries that have a monetary agenda to keep the culture using coal, wood, petrol, diesel, etc)

It's very "awkward" to talk about "mental health" to many adults because they have not developed the emotional maturity to discuss their personal"emotions". Furthermore, they may live in a culture where laypeople, that don't generally understand (study) the science of psychology and don't have any ethical training in this regard, use common folk psychology to intentionally offend other people. It's not uncommon for ignorant and immoral people to call other people "stupid" - only because they want to hurt their feelings. Not specifically because of any moral context. It has been said that "children can be cruel", and yet, evidently, adults can be far far worse.

So, because of indoctrination, and how belief-based psychology is, comparably, easy to manipulate (by immoral agents), many adults are deluded. Greenwash is one form of delusion, faith is another. (Subjectively) believing in "X" reality does not make "X" reality real. Understanding "X", makes "X" reality more tangible. That depends on what "X" is being studied. Humans can't perceive what it's like to be a rock, because it's nothing to be like a rock (though it is like something to be a bird, bat, etc). A rock is something (chemistry or atoms), but, a rock is not conscious. Therefore, it's subjectively nothing to be a rock. Or rather, humans are more like a rock, when they cease to be alive. A rock is none living chemistry.

So, this was a brief post that used basic science (e.g., electrochemistry & chemistry in general), plus the science of psychology, to infer why human perceptions, beliefs, or empirical knowledge, can vary so much from one human to another, or from one culture to another.

In general, scientific knowledge (education) improves good outcomes. Because that knowledge improves ("upgrades") cognitive psychology (the decision-making abilities of the mind). Therefore, conversely, religiosity, is, overall & in comparison, bad for humans. Bad religion. How do some people, in some religious cults act when their faith is challenged? They behave badly. Sometimes extremely badly (extremists).

However, it's only a belief! Understanding why it's only a belief - requires the knowledge of what beliefs are fundamentally based on.
