Want to see #Electron apps on #Linux support autostart in a standard way like macOS and Windows, without developers having to write Linux-specific code?

We can make it happen! Linux uses Portals which abstract away the details and can be implemented in frameworks like Electron to be used the same way as on other platforms.

Any Electron app on Linux (like Discord, Bitwarden, Slack, etc.) would benefit from this work, whether running as a #Flatpak or not.

Is that mean using any apps where it built with #CEF, #Electron can face same fate like #Chrome tha it use alternative ads API to capture activities while using those kind of apps, then you will see ads related to your behaviors that was done on those apps?

@Charlobo things i dont like from it:
- User-Agent should be browser #chromium. You can spoof it with an extension in #Firefox. It sucks that I can't do video calls even though it actually works in Firefox since #Teams is just an #Electron app.
- It has confusing navigation and has performance issues. Going back and forth is a hassle between pages because it seems it does not go back to where you were once before.
- It's very difficult to pin announcements or navigate posts.

New update brings theming support to Notesnook (@notesnook). I look forward to what the community can achieve styling the Notesnook app. The Obsidian team has shown that Electron apps can look and feel almost like native apps.

There is some criticism on #Reddit for #MassCode due to it being an #Electron app. RAM isn't a problem as much these days, but some prefer not to use Electron.

@supertobi Most #gnome apps use #GStreamer and thus pick Pipewire when available - which again is the case on many/most recent distros. Some newer ones also use the camera portal already, for example Snapshot, Authenticator and Decoder.

Notable non-gstreamer apps include #Firefox (experimental) and almost (some last patches are still pending) #Chromium (and thus by extension #electron apps).

There are also several branches already for #obs which will hopefully turn into a MR soon.

I wonder if anyone knows the original developer of the Graphic Adventure Creator (Sean Ellis), and the people who ported it to the #Speccy (Brendan Kelly), #C64 ("The Kid" Malcolm Hellon), #BBCMicro and #Acorn #Electron (both Dave Kirby)?

It would just be cool if they still had the original plans of how it worked, even if the code is long gone.
