Dear community. Any recent (or less recent) studies of , especially with in using some natural, not screen/VR stimuli?
Thanks

Happy to share that the book - a guide for edited by my supervisor Nikolai Axmacher is now published: link.springer.com/book/10.1007
Many great scientists from the field contributed and the result is an extensive collection covering essentially all relevant basic and advanced topics of invasive research in humans. Wish this existed when i started m phd, but good its here now anyways

Very happy to share our newly published "Sex differences in pituitary corticotroph excitability".

It is well known that sex differences exist in stress-related disorders, with women having twice the lifetime rate of depression compared to men and most anxiety disorders.

Corticotroph cells in the pituitary gland are a key player in the generation of hormonal stress responses. However, their contribution to sexually differential responses of the stress axis (which might underlie differences in stress-related disorders) is very poorly understood.

We found sex differences in the electrical activity of these cells, which could be related to differences in their gene expression pattern.

These findings shed light on the cellular mechanisms underlying sex differences in stress responses, contributing to a better understanding of stress-related disorders and potential avenues for diagnosis and treatment.

Digidata 1200 available- you’ll need a 16-bit ISA slot free on your 100% compatible 486 PC to cope with its high-speed acquisition though.

Request!!!!
New faculty here looking for existing (published or unpublished [collaboration!]) multi-neuronal activity datasets to re-analyse using the network analysis pipeline published in my dissertation.

Interested in the following datasets (>10 neurons):
· 2P Ca2+ imaging
· Muti-unit recordings

Super big bonus if recorded in:
· Awake, behaving animals (any behavior including locomotion)
· Cortical layers 2/3
· S1/M1 during locomotion & rest is 😍

Our cardioids are electrifying! 🤩

You're watching a 12-day old cardioid's pacemaker activity, derived from human stem cells at our Automated and Facility and captured by our Scientific Service Unit to study human diseases.

***UPDATE - apply before 31st May, last few places.

We will offer a single molecule course at HU Berlin in September (4th-8th). Come and learn single channels and single molecule TIRF!

The course will not be free... but bursaries will be available.

Intracellular NASPM blocks outward currents in GluA2-lacking AMPA receptors, with no relief at all from a large panel of auxiliary proteins. Important new tool for identifying AMPAR diversity at synapses. We need more ways to peel off the different types! Nice paper from Ian Coombs in the Cull-Candy-Farrant lab at UCL

Molecular dynamics simulations of the dimer of AMPA-type glutamate receptor binding domains from DE Shaw and colleagues. Seems to confirm some of our earlier functional work on desensitization (including one of the first mutants we published in 2012!), and also the transient encounters of glutamate on its way to the binding site. 190 µs of simulations!

Hello ! How many of you are using copper mesh in your electrode implants? And would you be interested in getting some identical to the one used by the Buzsaki lab?

I've been testing Ephys recordings.. after some amount of debugging it seems to work!
The main advantage of that system is that the rat's movement are unimpaired by cables, allowing him to express the full range of natural behaviours... like... pooing😅

Wow. In 24 hours, we have gone from zero to 4.4K followers, that‘s crazy. Thank you for a warm welcome and excellent tips. I gave up on replying to all of you after someone pointed out that I was spamming thousands of people – sorry! Also, please do not read too much into it if we do not respond or take a long time responding, we are a busy bunch and may simply sometimes miss your post or messages. Mastodon allows long posts so I am taking advantage of that, so here are a few things that you may – or may not – want to know.

—Who are we?—

Research in the Icelandic Vision Lab (visionlab.is) focuses on all things visual, with a major emphasis on higher-level or “cognitive” aspects of visual perception. It is co-run by five Principal Investigators: Árni Gunnar Ásgeirsson, Sabrina Hansmann-Roth, Árni Kristjánsson, Inga María Ólafsdóttir, and Heida Maria Sigurdardottir. Here on Mastodon, you will most likely be interacting with me – Heida – but other PIs and potentially other lab members (visionlab.is/people) may occasionally also post here as this is a joint account. If our posts are stupid and/or annoying, I will however almost surely be responsible!

—What do we do?—

Current and/or past research at IVL has looked at several visual processes, including , , , , , , and the role of / effects in . Some of our work concerns the basic properties of the workings of the typical adult . We have also studied the perceptual capabilities of several unique populations, including children, synesthetes, professional athletes, people with anxiety disorders, blind people, and dyslexic readers. We focus on but also make use of other techniques including , , and

—Why are we here?—

We are mostly here to interact with other researchers in our field, including graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and principal investigators. This means that our activity on Mastodon may sometimes be quite niche. This can include boosting posts from others on research papers, conferences, or work opportunities in specialized fields, partaking in discussions on debates in our field, data analysis, or the scientific review process. Science communication and outreach are hugely important, but this account is not about that as such. So we take no offence if that means that you will unfollow us, that is perfectly alright :)

—But will there still sometimes be stupid memes as promised?—

Yes. They may or may not be funny, but they will be stupid.
