Es grato crear apps en Linux con GTK4 y Vala. Las herramientas desbordan madurez e inteligencia. Ahora es más fácil que nunca mantener aplicaciones gráficas en diferentes distros y versiones. Tal vez migre algún script en Bash solo por jugar.

@jade I think mostly because I prefer downstream spins of Ubuntu like @pop_os_official or #ElementaryOS. So maybe I *do* use Ubuntu?

Just installed #elementaryos on my loaned #Tuxedo InfinityBook Pro. I must say, that although #TuxedoOS was fine, ElementaryOS surprisingly feels more native - trackpad gestures working out of the box, scaling is perfect for the DPI,… Stay tuned for a comprehensive review in a few weeks time.

Just now discovered this bad boy in a box. Dell XPS M1530.

Booted up and apparently I ran Elementary OS back then.

Gestern habe ich auf meinem neuen (#refurbished ) Laptop #elementaryos installiert. Soweit so gut. Hab natürlich die neueste Version geladen und schön gespendet. Nun, nachdem ich die Pakete aktualisiert und upgedatet hatte, gab es mit dem Paketmanager Probleme. Er meinte, es wären immer noch Updates vorhanden, welche er aber nicht mer installieren kann, weil Fehler. Über das Terminal stehen keine Updates mehr an. Nur der Paketmanager meckert. Just installed #elementaryos on my 15 year old notebook and it works better than expected. I am interest to see how it holds up in a long term test.

And those instructions, are, to say the least, NOT EASY. But they are MUCH MUCH easier than any other version out there I could find.

There's a huge level of assumed knowledge for literally any how to for Linux I've ever read.

And this all started with HomeBridge's "simple" instructions to run

sudo hb-service update node

And again, this is on #ElementaryOS which bills itself as "The thoughtful, capable, and ethical replacement for Windows and macOS."

#Linux partisans love to think people don't try it on the desktop because "they are lazy" or "they're comfortable with the OS that comes on their hardware" and that using Linux is "easy."

I've been running #ElementaryOS for several years & its getting to the point that #HomeBridge on it wants something newer because #GLIBC isn't up to date.

Searching the internet for how to upgrade the OS got me to https://jeansen.github.io/2023/05/05/upgrade-elementaryos-loki-to-juno.html which, I emphasize is BY FAR the clearest method for upgrading.

Speaking of the the late #Ello , this little video on #ElementaryOS /#eOS reflects similar problems that that little Social Media service had, basically treating their Desktop OS Project as a Hipster Art Project instead of addressing the actual needs and wants of users. Their App Center isn’t making money either.

Are there any #linux distros especially good for kids? I have an old laptop that was going to repurpose and I kicked off a download of #elementaryOS but the speed at which I can get this download to finish gave me ample time to search for something else in the background.
