In the early 70s Hammer tried to breathe new life into their gothic horror cycle with some fascinating films that broke free of the rigid Hammer formula. Countess Dracula (1971) is one of their most successful efforts. Ingrid Pitt is terrific.

Let's take #ElizabethBathory as an example. I see SO MANY people be all "Oh, she's a sweet, innocent victim of the evil patriarchy who never harmed a fly!" She was a noble, a product of inbreeding, married to a vicious man at 14, & said to have given birth to a child out of wedlock before that which means she was raped as a child. I'm saying she killed 600+ women, but I'm SURE she killed at least one if not more due to these factors.
