First of all, what sources do we use for discovering #emdiplomacy? Most important are of course diplomatic letters written by the diplomats to their home base & thereby reporting on their activities. /1

Last time, we talked about #emdiplomats constantly complaining about the weather. Besides this we find descriptions of the general climate and how it shaped the respective societies in #emdiplomacysSources.
Especially interesting is the account of Mehmed Said Efendi, envoy of Sultan Mahmud I, who travelled to Sweden in 1733. It’s the first Ottoman account on Sweden.
