Last #nightshift, 02 am,as a single coverage ED #Physician (15 patients waiting to be seen,more than 15 #patients in charge),I see a man with arms pain from 1 month and a women with abdo pain from 2 months.
I remembered of this great talk:we all choose #emergencyroom to treat the really sicks when they hit our door.We have to see everyone, but the not-sick-at-all is becoming the standard.

Im really afraid of using the #emergencyroom when there are signs I need to go. 7 years ago I had a very bad experience where besides having to wait a long time I also had to have blood work done, which is extremely stressful for me cause I have really bad #needleanxiety. And after all that time there, they weren’t able to find any #conditions I had with my #chest. Since then, I have not been back to an #emergency room even when I have #symptoms that say I should go there. I also live alone now and I often don’t feel like calling an #ambulance since I’ve never been in an ambulance before. Honestly what would be easier for me is if I had a #friend to go with me whenever I feel I need to go in order to help assist me, but I doubt I will find anything that works.

ended up taking Aeden to the ER last night, after right before bed time, he started moaning that the spot just behind his ear was hurting, and over the course of two hours (despite giving him tylenol) his moaning turned into near-screaming in pain. I figured it was yet another ear infection, but it's never ratcheted up in pain this suddenly, so it was freaking me out. I am extremely reluctant to go to the #EmergencyRoom even with employer sponsored #healthInsurance because it's so expensive... but of course my kids always get sick after bed time, when ask the urgent care clinics are closed 🙃 if only we lived in a civilized country that had #UniversalHealthcare (and kids didn't have to live with the reality that they might be gunned to death at school) but alas. maybe someday we can move out of this hellhole.

anyway, sure enough it's another ear infection, and "sometimes ear infections can get painful very quickly". ironically Aeden was just in with his PCP for an annual wellness check last week and he was "perfectly healthy". they prescribed antibiotics and told me just give pain meds as needed, familiar protocol. also I was worried they would start insisting on getting ear tubes installed (because he gets ear infections so often) but apparently his last infection was in October, so she wasn't worried. it felt like it was much more recent. I guess time flies, and your kids getting sick runs together. and overall my kids are very healthy... I can't imagine the stress of having an immunocompromised kid who needs to go to the hospital several times a year 😰

good thing our country pays for the medical care for its citizens so that all the babies the Republicans are forcing women to have can be taken care of, right?... right?? 🙃
