@Gabh In #chicklit I loved #MarianKeyes' first, #RachelsHoliday, about a #cokehead #emigrant removed from New York by her family and persuaded into what she imagines will be something like the #BettyFordClinic but in Wicklow - very funny

A poem with an #AStorMoChroí #emigrant vibe of the #LostHomeland, from Odessa (quoted on #GeorgeSaunders' page https://georgesaunders.substack.com/p/my-first-goose-1)

On this day, two year's ago, I was back on the Island helping to care for my dying mum. It was the first time in 40 years I'd spent more than just a few days there. I spent an hour a day walking around the lanes and paths near my sister's house in Carisbrooke. It helped keep me sane during a tough time. I've always loved the island where I was born and raised and it was an unexpected high point of my 3 month stay that I could feel I was "home" again, just for a while.

The history of #Cuban #immigrants in the former #GDR is the focus of a new special #exhibition in the #German #Emigrant House in #Bremerhaven. Entitled "... a little different, but just the same", the show is on display from Sunday until February 28. Starting in the 1960s, around 30,000 people came from #Cuba to work, study or train in the former GDR. Some of them still live in Germany today.
