A Salvadoran storefront church opened up the street from my house a few weeks ago and most afternoons and evenings they sell just fantastic pan con pollo and pastelitos Savaldoreños, neither of which is very common as street food here.

Die Teighülle für die frittierten Empanadas besteht nur aus gekochtem und gemahlenem nixtamalisierten Mais (also Mais, der alkalisch vorbehandelt ist und aus dem auch das Mehl für Maistortillas gemacht wird). empanadas, empanadas, empanadas! baked #empanadas, as a matter of fact.
stuffed with ground #beef, peas, scallions, garlic and onion and seasoned with cumin, paprika, coriander, worcestershire, chili powder and all kinds of herbs and spices. served with yellow #rice and some honey glazed carrots and celery in a white wine reduction.
the best part? this was totally a #KitchenSink creation. about the only planned part was the yellow rice. the filling was just something i came up with and the vegetable side was a last minute thing i threw together because what i originally had in mind (roasted brussels sprouts) wasn't going to be possible (didn't actually have any brussels sprouts 😅).
man, what is it about portable meat dishes in a pastry shell that makes them so damn #tasty?

I plan on tooting about work on Wednesdays, but as my research is in trauma and child abuse, I'm gonna hold off until after the holidays (and there will be lots of CW and TW!)
So for now, I want to rave about Che Empanada, a little #Argentinean bakery I found last night. Possibly the best chorizo empanadas I have ever had. For someone that grew up on the US-Mexico border, that is no small feat!

The cook told me that Argentinian empanadas are not deep-fried but are baked and generally less spicy than empanadas from other parts of Latin America. Can anyone in Mastadonland confirm this?
