I think Jürgen Franke mentions in this interview, that their main inspiration for #Midgard1, aside from D&D was #EmpireOfThePetalThrone. He does mention #RuneQuest, saying a bit of it came into Midgard and some was later thrown out. The interview is a bit long, but quite interesting from a historical perspective.

Beautiful setting but mechanics I wouldn't wish on anyone these days. In fact, the newest iteration aren't mechanics I'd wish on people. Still, lovely.

Looks like something from Myst... or #EmpireOfThePetalThrone. Maybe a way to read one of those map stones from the Latter Times.

One of my favourite pieces of RPG illustration, a Black Ssú warrior drawn by Craig Smith for "Swords & Glory Volume 1, The Source Book" published by Gamescience in 1983. It's hardly a lavishly illustrated volume, but the alien races are convincing and feel a long way from being a man in a rubber suit. The Ssú, one of the surviving races from before mankind colonised Tékumel, are understandably not well disposed towards humans.
