A great deal of discussion about police abolition concerns non-police responses to violent crime, but most police work is unrelated to violent crime. Most, maybe all, of this is economic in nature – designed to keep working people from using productive property to meet their own needs directly – to keep the commons enclosed. This work means the police are inextricably integrated into the economy in surprising ways that are largely undiscussed in the context of abolition, which would trigger monumental, almost unimaginable changes in how we as a society meet our human needs through work. It’s likely that the end of policing would mean the end of capitalism, which suggests that it won’t be easy to achieve given the magnitude of what’s at stake.

I am creating content that I want to be consumed widely and I do not mind it being remixed if that serves a specific purpose such as making it more accessible to a community or if the result actually improves on what I was able to produce.

I do not want to rule out machine learning applications as such. Some are useful.

However, what I do object to is the #enclosure and #enshittification that happens when my words enter a proprietary model like OpenAI's GPT-X.

Ok, so here is a mistake that I made with my #Prusa #MK4+#enclosure purchase. I’ve ordered the “Quick release PSU” add-on and it’s not compatible with MK4. I guess this is because of the “PE cable” which connects PSU to the display.

Describing the ongoing evils of #capitalism is not "lamenting on past mistakes". Capitalism is enforced by violence and coercion NOW, TODAY. #Enclosure and #colonialism are processes that continue EVERY DAY.

Capitalism is like cancer. You can't tame it; it serves no healthy useful purpose. It is a parasite on humanity and must be eliminated.

If by "Democracies" you mean nation-states, no, I have no state-based solutions to offer, nor are any state really "democracies". States are part of the problem.

I think communism does describe the solution but I suspect you have an authoritarian state in mind when you use that word and I most certainly do not mean it that way.

You can define capital as "stuff" if you want, but that's not useful to any serious discussion or analysis of the actual existing system of capitalism (but I must say that Capital itself is well served by people who essentially see everything around them, and even inside them, as potential capital).

But it's ok, we can go with your definition, I would still say capital is an idea that we need to be rid of entirely. The concept of capital enslaves us.

#capitalism is not voluntary at all. It required #Enclosure and #colonialism for it to be born and it continues those violent processes to maintain itself.

Wealth does not come from stuff, it comes from the fences around stuff that we specifically need to survive. Capitalism leaves us no option other than market society. "The goods you are expected to buy are made out of resources you have forcibly been excluded from using yourself" ("The Prehistory of Private Property" by Karl Widerquist and Grant S. McCall). It is an arrangement of coercion, not voluntary choice.

Wealth is a measure of social power over others.

I think Capital is well-served by us thinking that greed is the problem. This is #capitalism 101: blame everything on human nature, claim that people need authorities to control them and blame heinous atrocities on us forcing them to do bad things for our own good.

All this distracts from the reality that Capital is *power* and that capitalism was *forced* on us all by a tiny minority of people with power. It did not just "evolve" from our collective actions. It is not some neutral system that has been ruined by greedy individuals.

It is important for people to understand the real evils deeper at the heart of capitalism:

It's possible to see the criminalization of sex work as enclosure of productive commons in support of capitalism. I feel like people must already have thought about this and am hoping someone could recommend reading? The argument:

1. Everyone has a body and can potentially use it to make money directly through sex work. Bodies are a means of production available to every person without intermediation.

2. People who can support themselves directly may not choose to engage in wage labor. This threatens capitalism, which requires a steady supply of commoditized labor.

3. Capital's response is to cut off access to the means of production, an enclosure process. Liberated sex work, with no entree for the state through criminalization, threatens capitalism and is therefore illegal.

I'm not claiming that this is the sole reason sex work is criminalized. Criminalized sex work, like all aspects of capitalism, has many uses and so is highly overdetermined. There are many, many reasons for it.
