I've never understood people's gripes about #DMs being read. OF COURSE they're not private...these platforms have never promised that. It's not just Mastodon.

People should always have been using their own #SecureMessaging solution. I've been using Wire's basic plan as an encrypted solution for years, but some folks I know refuse to do anything different from what they have always done.

The #DoubleRatchet algorithm is used by two parties to exchange #encryptedmessages based on a shared secret key. Typically the parties will use somekey agreement protocol to agree on the shared secret key. Following this, the parties will use the Double Ratchet to send and receive #encrypted messages.
