I just gave Wikipedia $10. From memory, it's the first time I've donated. So that's roughly 50 cents for each year I've been making regular use of it. Good deal.

In my defence, I have contributed to Wikipedia many times over the years, editing articles and even starting one one, like the fediverse article.

Just as a contrast, in 2012 Stephen J. Dubner paid $1600 for a set of the last printed encyclopaedia that Britannica produced:

He començat a escriure en la Viquipèdia i tinc un dubte, es pot referenciar de llibres o no?

Per qué a la Wikipedia en anglés sí que es fa i la veritat es que no entenc cap altre via per escriure un article academic aparte de citar altres enciclopedies digitalizades com Britannica o la GEC. I si la Viquipedia va a ser una transcripció d'altres enciclopèdies on-line donçs visite aquestes altres i ja està.

On January 7, 1706, German bookseller and publisher Johann Heinrich Zedler was born. His most important achievement was the creation of a German encyclopedia, the Grosses Universal-Lexicon (Great Universal Lexicon), the largest and most comprehensive German-language encyclopedia developed in the 18th century.

And to handle just one of those books is to be transported to a place of dedication and expertise, and often to obscurity, and occasionally to genius. I’m saddened that the world no longer has a use for most of them, and that this remarkable corner of history is history itself.

I didn't know that Northrop Frye wrote on the encyclopaedia. Now I know and will read it.
These days I read on the encyclopaedia as form and how it orders and unifies the world. If you have any reading recommendations on the topic, be my guest.
