The IL Supreme Court recently approved the elimination of cash bail in Illinois. A lot of commenters say we should look at California and New York to see the results of bail reform, which they claim is out-of-control crime. This is not true. There is no evidence that crime has increased in either CA or NY out of proportion with other states that have not enacted bail reform. The Illinois Supreme Court ruled that ending cash bail is constitutional in Illinois! Now the amount of money a person has won't determine whether they get out of jail while awaiting trial. @jentrification Fear-mongering indeed! It is crystal clear the IL Constitution is saying there should be a way out for a person awaiting trial & NOT that cash bail should be required. No stay should have been granted. The # of constitutional rights deprived with cash bail is staggering. Justice for the white and wealthy. My friend spent 20 yrs in prison for a murder she didn’t commit because she didn’t have bail & couldn’t aid in her defense. DNA finally freed her. #endcashbail

@prozacchiwawa @mekkaokereke that might be one solution. Part of the problem is underfunding the judicial system- just criminal neglect. So even if someone had good intentions, they just get buried with cases. This is why I emphasize the need to end #endcashbail not jut reform it.
