The more I research reference managers, the more I'm inclined to call this market "the sad state of reference managers"

- #ReadcubePapers: has a great recommendation feature, but the app is hideous and I've lost data three times already
- #Zotero: free and open, but the iPad app is really lacking and the deskop app is super clunky
- #Endnote: tried the iPad app, cannot automatically look up for the bibliographic metadata lol
- #Mendeley: lol

Try to write all references manually and avoid using any reference management software like: #zotero, #Mendeley, #EndNote

I am gradually becoming a #Zotero convert. I've used #Endnote since the 90s, but I'm now recommending Zotero to students even though they have access to Endnote through the university. I'm guessing it won't be long before I commit to fully making the switch.

My postgrads usually use #zotero (free, more modern, etc). Seems to work OK for keeping track of stuff, but the varieties of citations that might be in a historical PhD thesis (19thC books, newspapers, archival material...) routinely poses challenges in the final stages of PhD submission.

I know the hacks to get #EndNote to do it, but the students struggle to get #Zotero to do their footnotes/bibliography nicely. Don't know if that's #Zotero, or their lack of experience.

I'm a firm believer in reference management software of some sort. I can't imagine doing my footnotes/bibliography without it (600+page book!)

I've been using #EndNote for over 20 years now, and still use it because it's what I started with, and I'm essentially locked-in now. So much time already invested in it, but also so much famiilarity with how it works that it's difficult to go back to baby-steps with another system (cf @pfyfe on the 'commitment').

- I can't stand #Endnote. Especially the search / 'advanced search' ist lackluster. And don't get my started about custom output styles...

- I really enjoyed #Citavi's backed-in PDF-viewer and annotator: especially the different layers: bibliography and notes/annotations

- I use #Zotero for its reliable, highly customisable and accessible features; the new PDF-features 😍

Is anyone here using #EndNote in #LibreOffice, specifically Writer? I'm trying to use the CWYW plugin to manage my references and it automatically puts the bibliography at the end of the document even though I've made a section and clicked in the options to have the endnotes at the end of the section. I've updated both LibreOffice and EndNote X9 to their most recent versions. I'm trying to find help online but all I find is people arguing about if this problem is real or not. #help :boost_ok:
