7 Jan. #DNA. #Endogamy. Irish Travellers. My head is exploding trying to figure out how I match to so many Irish people of Traveller descent when I have a single Irish direct ancestor at 3 x great grandmother level. I'm not sure clustering is helping. Anyone have any experience with this? Would love to hear any suggestions. I'm now off reading blogs and watching webinars.

I took five genetic genealogy courses this year, most focused on endogamy, pedigree collapse, and multiple relationships. Nicole Dyer at Family Locket asked me to share something about that. This post focuses on visualizing complex relationships, such as multiple instances of pedigree collapse and multiple relationships in one match.

All 32 of my 3rd-great-grandparents had settled into one Appalachian county by 1820 (many earlier), and 60 of my most-recent ancestors were born, lived, and died there, in Ashe County, NC.
I'm interested in genetic genealogy, especially endogamy, pedigree collapse, and teasing-apart multiple relationships using DNA segment triangulation.

The pedigree collapse is significant enough to be challenging, but not as severe as other communities. After taking Leah Larkin's (The DNA Geek) Endogamy course, I submitted data for her ongoing study; my results were described as "mild to moderate endogamy." You can really see it in this image illustrating the pedigree collapse, where an ancestor who appears multiple times in a traditional pedigree chart is shown only once. #genealogy #geneticGenealogy #pedigreeCollapse #endogamy
