Why I am on #Github eventhough I am not a #programmer:
1. Access to development builds and side projects that may interest me
2. Feedback to devs on bugs and suggestions as an #enduser
3. #OpenAcess relies on open communication and it just makes things easier for the devs to get centralized feedback sonetimes

Also note I think it's responsible to learn how to user the platform before "helping" and starting a bunch of pull requests something instead of messaging your comms.

It’s important to always keep in mind that we don’t know how users will want to use a product in the future.
To that end, we mustn’t bake our perception of the future user’s business logic into products we develop, but must strive to allow the user to customise to suit. (There are, of course, limits to this… you can’t customise a garden fork to make it act as a hedge trimmer!).

This why distro maintainers need to not blindly trust and merge code either. A review first to ensure no tampering has been performed on either end to ensure that it is #safe for the #enduser to use. Otherwise reject it.

Here it's a #balance of you exercising your rights and options as an #enduser as well as everyone adhering to the #rules set forth on the #instances that host them.

The vast majority of this platform is run by #volunteers, understand and try to #respect that.

While the decentralized network is Mastodons greatest strength - it’s also its greatest vulnerability.

How an admin runs an instance (in the cloud v on a home Pi, data backups, moderation), could impact overall success or failure.

End users can’t wake up one morning to find the server & all they’ve contributed over a sustained period of time - gone!

Let’s promote responsibility in the #admin space!
