Interesting piece from the techie folks at #BBC. I hadn’t really considered the number of folks who listen to radio via their smart TVs. Great opportunity to consume less power when Media companies opt to use a darkened background. I imagine the same holds true for #podcast and #StreamingMusic apps as well.

I wonder what the data looks like for Americans listening to audio content on their TVs?Anybody got a source?

I get the idea of #EarthHour for awareness but modern lights draw very little power.

All numbers back-of-napkin approximate at 8 h/day use:

A house might need 100 W for lighting; 300 kWh/year.

Turning ALL those off for one hour once yearly saves a whopping **0.1 kWh**/year.

Ditching just ONE 10 W lamp saves **30 kWh**/year.

Replacing ten 10 W lamps with ten 7 W lamps saves **85-90 kWh**/year.

Long term, which helps more?

Let's please keep #EnergyConservation efforts in perspective.

Good news ! Calculations based on the energy consumption of the electric water heater we installed three weeks ago indicate that we can expect our combined monthly electricity and gas bill to drop from the current €40 a month to approximately zero, because the extra electricity consumed by the water heater should be cancelled out almost exactly by the extra solar panels we installed in September.

😂 Thanks for the reminder FB that before gradschool I had energy to run around the lake in the winter ❄️ 🥶😳 & that now I opt for the treadmill since I measure everything in terms of time units & stimulation regulation. 🥱 😮‍💨 I do take time to recognize the mountains & sky every day but I opt for the yoga mat & window view vs the cold & added layering needed. 😂 I look forward to the burnout recovery after graduation. 😭 Or even just Spring 🌼🌱 🏃🏼‍♀️👟
