The #energycrisis merely emphasised the point that despite commitments to #netzero & the reduction of dependence on #fossilfuels, developed countries are still pouring subsidies into the fossil fuel sector.... recent 'help' for consumers was merely a cleverly badged subsidy to #energy firms.

Perhaps (?) we should be less hard on #RishiSunak for stepping from #green policies, as he's just explicitly doing what other Govt's are also effectively doing, but with pious words

No doubt some #brexiters will delight at the the #German economy's problems.

But, we shouldn't forget while Germany's once in a generation political economic shock was the integration of the East (which continues to pattern its economy), the UK's was an act of willful obstruction of access to its key market.

Germany has many issues to deal with, not least the impact of an #energycrisis on #manufacturing, but if I had to bet on which would recover more easily, I wouldn't put money on the UK!

The International Energy Authority is warning that if #Russia (again) impedes #gas supplies into #Europe this winter, even with 100% of storage capacity utilised, it will only take a relatively cold spell to plunge the continent into another #energycrisis - so here's hoping for a mild #winter!

In the USA, #inflation is down to below 4%... in the EU, inflations is down to below 6%, with some countries below 3%, but i the UK it remains around 8%.... so, why has the UK become an outlier in developed country inflation rates?
