It is a shame that the EC has now decided that it doesn’t need to fund this sort of work. It is relying on the nation states to fund it directly (which is problematic as national funding is hard to align).

(Why hard? Primarily it is about synchronising funding - it isn’t enough to agree on the topics; nations have different funding cycles).

Just starting the final review meeting for IS-ENES3 (https://is.enes.org/) - the final EC funded I3 infrastructure project for #enes. We have supported a lot of #climate modelling, including #cmip5 and #cmip6, and are preparing for #cmip7.

While it is the last of this type of funding (more than a decade of EC support), we plan to maintain an element of coordination of activities via a new “ENES club” - and use a range of grant funding for specific activities.

The ENES community has just published a public draft of their "infrastructure strategy for climate modelling", which covers everything from hpc, to software and people.
