Dear , I am struggling with the beginning of the year in England. When did it change from Easter (Dionysian cycle) to Christmas? It must have been before the 12th/13th century because it changed to Lady Day after that.

And an additional question, because I know that in Norman Sicily Lady Day was the beginning of the year: Could William I also have introduced 25th March as the beginning of the year?

One time I started a blog that was going to be posts about what I style 'folk history': little essays on the stories I've uncovered in my (entirely hobbyist) researches into folk belief, local history, and the more interesting bits of my family history, against a background of social history of the times.

Typically of me, I set it all up, got one post in, and never wrote anymore. But since people seem to like that sort of thing on here, maybe I'll resurrect it?

Hi there, I'm Jenny in Victoria, a bit clumsy with socials but the time is finally right so here I am.

I love gardening, books & reading. Audible is keeping me sane & I'm finally building my own home library. Recently left a job after 25+ years so finally making time for everything I've been missing - hand stitchery, live theatre, music 90's rock, opera & everything in between (but not C&W) English history & bingeing streamed TV, some of these new series are fantastic but re-watching the oldies is fun too. Love Melbourne cafe culture but my ❤ belongs to Tasmania.

I live in beautiful South Gippsland, have 1 husband & 2 sons (one still at home but we are working on that) and one perfectly imperfect french bulldog completes our world 🥰. I'm a half glass full kind of gal, so feeling the Fediverse could be perfect fit...here goes, wish me luck
