Let’s see if maybe some #LitStudies people see your post, too. It’s a shame that #MarcusRediker is not on Mastodon yet (at least I don’t believe he is). It could be that the #EnglishProfs would have more evidence (although I, also, tend to trust Rediker’s work). Do you remember where you read his view on this? I don’t recall coming across it.
