It really annoys me that the French translation of Barrayar I'm reading EDITS entire chunks of text. Who is the translator to eliminate full paragraphs of content of a work in the process of translating? I just can't understand it.

Except those other times when this same mighty translator gets creative and decides to add several hundred words.

English original version: "Tough."

French translation: "Tant pis. Il faudrait qu'il se fasse une raison."

Really irritating.
