My pick is #TheSimpsons. That was the best #TreeHouseOfHorror I have ever seen. But I'd say #Primal has a lot of buzz around it. #BobsBurgers has been really good this past year. Havnt seen much of the others. #xcpet #Entergalactic, which if it wins, deserves it. Great animation.

The nominations for the #Emmys came out. #Animation only has a one category, which lumped a #film in with #TV shows. But hey, I guess we have a category at all. (Meanwhile reality and variety get like 3-4 sub-catagories each). To my knowledge, I didnt see any animation listings in other categories.

Been exploring Spider-Verse -like art. I realized the best thing they did for animation is not the 2D/3D style. It's that push to try out completely new ideas in wildly different formats. Shape the art in any way you want - be it for the story or for the art's sake.

I watched Entergalactic and Bad Guys (never heard of the former until today) and each has such different character, texture, atmosphere, heart. This shit is life.

#Entergalactic is a pretty good watch. The first half of the plot moves slow. But it is good setup for the better pace in the later. The crew does some nice stuff with color. Tho sometimes they do what I call "rainbow vomit". There is a love of NYC, and they make it alive in this prod. The #Animation feels oil painted. And the low-framerate animation is done well. very diff from spiderverse. I recommend to the right age. (More in 🧵)

I just watched #Entergalactic and it was phenomenal!

I'm a big fan of adult animation -- Spine of Night, Heavy Metal, Fire and Ice, etc. -- and frequently seek out new stuff for casual (stoned) viewing. Most of my favorites are in the sci-fi or fantasy genres, so I didn't know if I'd enjoy a straight-up modern romance.

A recent example is #Entergalactic. With the very first frame, the Jenga Building in downtown Manhattan during sunset, I knew instantly (a) where this was, and (b) that I’d like this film, for more than nodding to its setting, but (as mentioned above), making Manhattan a character in the story. When Carmen asks, “you got a new place, in Manhattan?”, when Jabari’s sister complains she came down from Queens to visit him, where Jabari bikes vs taxis, and no doubt tons of references I didn’t get, the film is encoding big chunks of storytelling into clever piggybacking off NYC’s geography and street knowledge.

Meanwhile other stories ostensibly set in NYC have a fraction of this. The city is just an inert backdrop, barely registering in the story.

I’d like a vocabulary to differentiate the Entergalactics from the rest.

#Entergalactic: An interesting twist on the #stoner #comedy, and a sweet #romance story to boot.
