I've been trying to identify this #butterfly or #moth , seen on my kitchen window in Southwest England in late July.

I reckon possibly a #LargeSkipper - can any #entomologist improve on that identification?

I saw it come into the bathroom from under the baseboards, there's a small gap area.
Dark colour, possibly 1cm size, small "but a large small", moved fast. It came in, stopped, and went RIGHT back into the same hole.

Now I'm fearing it's bedbugs but that seems unlikely, I've been in this place a few months now... But what could it have been?? Didn't seem like a cockroach ...

Sometimes being an #entomologist leaves you with a warped view. I know thanatosis exists is non- #insects but what about faking illness to avoid #predation (as opposed to leading predators away from offspring). Like on-demand regurgitation. Or is that just an invert thing?

New paper in The #Canadian #Entomologist about #Eocene-era giant #ants in #British #Columbia.

One interesting thing about this study is that the #fossil was distorted during the fossilization process. Depending on the interpretation of the actual size of the ant, different possibilities exist for how it got to what is now southern British Columbia.
